This course (ID: HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) applies to a wide range of settings where emergencies involving cardiac arrest may occur. It is relevant for people working in education, aged and community care, sport, travel & tourism, hospitality, industry enterprises and other workplace and community settings.
Duration
1.5 hours classroom training and assessment (with online pre-work); or 2-3 hours classroom training and assessment only.
Course Content
This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle cardiac emergency situations. It includes: +Introduction to first aid principles
+Assessing a cardiac emergency situation
+Airway and breathing management
+Performing chest compressions
+Administering rescue breaths
+Resuscitation techniques
+Using a defibrillator (AED)
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisite units. Participants will need oral communication skills in order to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services and workplace supervisor and it is recommended that participants have language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to level 2 of the National Reporting System.
Assessment Methods
Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.

It is relevant for people working in education, aged and community care, sport, travel & tourism, hospitality, industry enterprises as well as in home or other environments.

4 hours classroom training and assessment (with online pre-work); or 6 hours classroom training and assessment only.
Course Content
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies using basic life support measures. It includes:

+Responsibilities of organisations and individuals in relation to allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
+Risk minimisation and management strategies for anaphylaxis emergencies
+First aid management for a severe anaphylactic reaction
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisite units for this course, though participants should have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to level 2 of the National Reporting System. An example of a NRS level 2 activity is requesting appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of an anaphylaxis emergency.
